SPARRING

AKA KUMITE

Kumite (組手) can be translated as “meeting of hands.” In our dojo it is a practical application of karate techniques in a sporting atmosphere. This is also known as “SPORT KARATE” where similar to other sports, students earn points by striking legal target areas with control.

It’s a crucial aspect of karate training, involving simulated combat between two or more practitioners, utilizing techniques learned in kihon (basics) and kata  (forms). Kumite emphasizes practical application of karate techniques, including blocking, striking, and counter-attacking, while also developing physical and mental attributes like timing, distance control, and self-control.

Our competition team is named after “Kumite”
